Together with the University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg (since March 2019 Technical University Aschaffenburg), the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research and its project group IWKS (today Fraunhofer IWKS) submitted the application for the Fraunhofer Application Center "Resource Efficiency" (ARess) on October 18, 2012. This was financially supported by the Free State of Bavaria (government of Lower Franconia) in the build-up phase from 01.11.2012 to 31.10.2017.

In September 2015, Professor Gesa Beck assumed an endowed professorship at the Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, funded for 5 years by the city of Alzenau, and headed the Fraunhofer Application Center ARess.

The successful interim evaluation of the ARess took place in February 2016. The experts recommended to extend the construction phase for 3 years at no cost. A corresponding application for extension until October 2020 was submitted and approved. In November 2019, the evaluation of the ARess is planned in order to decide whether a stabilisation should be carried out after October 2020.
